Syrian Army, Iraqi troops storm ISIS stronghold of Abu Kamal

newly liberated city of Al-Qaim, thrusting deep inside Syrian territory.
According to preliminary reports, Abu Kamal is already surrounded from its western and eastern flank while Iraqi and Syrian forces have penetrated the southern suburbs of the ISIS-held city, anchored on the Euphrates River in southern Deir Ezzor.
Heavy clashes continue as we speak with some ISIS militants trying to set up a last stand in Abu Kamal while others have abandoned their posts upon the sight of a massive Iraqi-led fighting force arriving at the southern gates of the city.
According to Al-Masdar News correspondent Ibrahim Joudeh, it is expected that Iraqi forces will hand over control of Abu Kamal to the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) once it has been fully secured from ISIS.
